An attractive matched pair of five-light candelabra, executed in richly ornamented cast metal in the Rococo Revival tradition. Each candelabrum features an elegantly proportioned baluster-shaped central stem, embellished with scrolling foliage, floral motifs and moulded ornament. Four gracefully curved branches emerge from the central shaft, terminating in decorated candle sockets with shaped drip pans, while a fifth, elevated candleholder crowns the composition. The sculptural arrangement of asymmetrical scrollwork and naturalistic foliage reflects the decorative vocabulary of the French Louis XV style, revived throughout Europe during the nineteenth century. Each piece rests upon an elaborate, shaped pedestal base with boldly modelled rocaille decoration and scrolling feet, creating a harmonious balance between ornamental richness and architectural stability. The warm golden surface, enhanced by darker tones within the recessed ornament, accentuates the relief decoration and gives the pair a distinguished antique appearance. A decorative and functional ensemble suitable for a classical interior, mantelpiece, console table or dining-room display.
