An expressive carved wooden sculpture depicting Christ Crucified, distinguished by its dramatic upward gaze, elongated proportions and carefully articulated anatomy. Christ is represented with both arms raised in a broad V shaped configuration, his head turned heavenward and his lips slightly parted. The deeply furrowed brow, hollowed cheeks and finely carved beard lend the face a moving expression of suffering and spiritual resignation. The sculptor has emphasised the physical drama of the Crucifixion through the pronounced ribcage, taut musculature and attenuated torso. A short, asymmetrically arranged loincloth encircles the hips, its deeply carved folds creating a lively contrast with the smoother modelling of the body. The sculpture displays a warm, honey brown surface with darker tonal accents that emphasise the carved details. Presented independently on a modern black metal stand, the figure retains a powerful sculptural presence. A compelling example of devotional woodcarving in the Central European Baroque tradition, notable for its expressive facial treatment and dramatic composition.
