The majestic figure of God the Father occupies the centre of the composition, crowned with an elaborate triple tiara and dressed in voluminous, gilded and polychromed robes. His right hand is raised in blessing, while his left supports the globus cruciger, the cross-bearing orb symbolising divine dominion over the world. At the centre of his chest, the Holy Spirit appears as a silvered dove with outstretched wings, surrounded by a radiant gilded glory. Two finely modelled angelic heads, their wings forming part of the surrounding circular frame, complete the celestial composition. The carving is distinguished by the carefully rendered facial features, flowing beard, delicately articulated feathers and deeply folded drapery. Its harmonious palette of muted greens, warm gold, silver and natural flesh tones lends the sculpture a particularly refined devotional character. The relief belongs to the Central European tradition of ecclesiastical woodcarving, combining the ceremonial grandeur of Baroque religious imagery with an intimate and expressive treatment of the divine figure. The substantial wooden construction and unfinished reverse suggest that the work may originally have formed part of a larger altar or church furnishing.

Condition: Historic surface wear, minor losses and restoration to polychromy and gilding, fissures and old fixing holes visible on the reverse.

An impressive example of Central European sacred sculpture, notable for its unusual iconography, decorative richness and accomplished modelling.

General: The statue’s overall height with the display stand is 19.7 inches (50 cm).
