The central skull is skilfully carved from wood and finished in a pale, bone-like polychromy. Its remarkably detailed anatomical features include deeply recessed eye sockets, finely articulated teeth, prominent cheekbones and carefully delineated cranial sutures, creating a convincing representation of the human skull. The composition embodies the Christian tradition of Memento Mori, a Latin expression meaning “Remember that you must die.” Its substantial proportions, convincing anatomical carving and richly ornamented gilded base make it a distinctive addition to a collection of European religious art, ecclesiastical antiques or Memento Mori objects.

General:The overall dimensions of the Memento Mori Candlestick are a height of 24.4 inches (62 cm) and depth of 7.5 inches (19 cm) and a width of 6.3 inches (16 cm).

Condition: The Memento Mori is in good condition with no damage besides age-related wear.
