Each vase features a gracefully proportioned ovoid body rising to a slender neck and moulded circular rim. The shoulders are flanked by elaborate scrolling handles enriched with acanthus foliage, while the lower body is supported by a gilt-bronze foliate calyx. The marble displays a striking network of pale green and white veining against a deep green ground, creating a dramatic contrast with the warm golden tones of the metalwork. The urns are raised upon slender marble socles, resting on stepped gilt-bronze mounts with classical laurel decoration and octagonal marble plinths. Their symmetrical composition, classical ornament and refined combination of stone and metal are characteristic of the French Louis XVI Revival tradition, which enjoyed considerable popularity during the late nineteenth century. Preserved as a matching pair, these decorative urns would make an impressive architectural statement upon a mantelpiece, console table or within a classical interior.

General: The overall dimensions are 15.8 inches (40 cm) high and 6.7 inches (17 cm) wide.
