Renaissance Processional Cross | 1500s Antique
A RARE French antique / 16th century gilded and silver plated copper processional cross featuring a wonderful Corpus Christi - Christo Vivo (body of Christ) sculpture on one side and Virgin Mary sculpture on the other set on a turned wooden ebonized base (later period). The cross is constructed with a ?????? core, which is applied with repousee sheet copper decorated with quatrefoil, C scrolls and flowers.
General: The overall height with the base is 32.7 inches (83 cm). The overall dimensions of the cross only are a height of 28.2 inches (71.5 cm), a height without the threaded rod of 28.2 inches (58 cm) and a width of 18.5 inches (47 cm). The overall dimensions of the Corpus Christi statue are a height of 7.1 inches (18 cm), a height from toes to the head of 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) and a width of 5.1 inches (13 cm). The Virgin Mary statue is 6.7 inches (17 cm) in height. The overall weight with the wooden stand is 7.5 pounds / 3.4 kg.
Condition: The crucifix is in good condition with no damage besides age-related wear - accidents to the two cross finials. Please see the enclosed images as part of the condition description.
