His delicately modelled face, framed by flowing brown curls, bears a serene and contemplative expression. The sculptural treatment of the garments, together with the gentle facial expression, reflects the artistic vocabulary of the late Baroque and Rococo devotional tradition. The lamb, held close to Christ's body, represents the faithful soul under divine protection, recalling the biblical image of Christ as the Good Shepherd. The sculpture retains areas of aged polychromy and gilding, with visible craquelure, surface wear and losses, particularly to the reverse. These signs of age contribute to its historic character. An appealing example of traditional European religious woodcarving, distinguished by its intimate scale, expressive modelling and enduring Christian symbolism.

General: The statue’s overall dimensions are 11.4 inches (29 cm) high and 5.7 inches (14.5 cm) wide.

Condition: The statue is in good condition - aged polychromy and gilding, with visible craquelure, surface wear and losses - please see the enclosed images for the condition description.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1937/5233/files/Christ_the_Good_Shepherd_Baroque_Sculpture_1700s_11.4.jpg?v=1792122678
